Team News.  …Oxfordshire Cup Final –Chinnor vs. Henley Alliance 16th April 2005 at Iffley Road, Oxford, Kick Off 3:30pm

The Counties top two clubs clash in this seasons Senior Cup Final at Iffley Road.
For Henley it will be an opportunity to avenge last seasons semi final defeat; for Chinnor the opportunity to make amends for last seasons cup final loss at the hands of Oxford Harlequins.
A full strength Chinnor  will be led by former Henley prop Simon Matthews. In the backs, James Hewitt takes the 15 shirt with Charlie Oyabade on the wing.
“We know it will be a severe test for us” says Head coach John Brodley. “ made all the harder as so many of our players have turned out for the Saracens club recently when they were coached then by the now new  Director of Rugby at Henley – John Lambden. He knows our players well and will ensure that his new club are expertly prepared. We will, as always be followed by our excellent supporters will make themselves admirably heard at Iffley Road. We are looking forward to the contest immensely.”

Braywick Park is the venue for the clash of two of South West Ones most improved teams – Maidenhead v Chinnor.
With two league games remaining,  the home side sit in 4^th place on 24 points with the visitors one place behind on 21.
With one week to go before the County cup final, coach John Brodley makes changes to his squad – Charlie Oyabade and Craig Burroughs give way to Chad Ward & Jack Martin. Simon Pearson and Ali Reechie come onto the bench.

Chinnor resume their league programme with a game against St Mary's at Kingsey Road.
The home side, 5^th in the league will be looking to cement their highest ever league finish with a win against a Bristol team currently in the relegation fight being third from bottom

Team News - Bridgewater vs. Chinnor 12th March 2005 Kick off 2:30pm

Chinnor can expect an altogether tougher test than the last  two successive games against Oxford Harlequins when they  resume action outside the County with a South West Division 1 league fixture at Bridgwater.
The home side have lost only two of their 18 games and lie in second place behind promotion favourites Cinderford.
Chinnor, sitting in 5^th place, have to make changes.
With Charlie Oyabade not available, James Hewitt moves from the wing to full back with his place going to Chad Ward. Mike Cook received a rib injury during his outstanding performance last week, which means a re-shuffle in the back row. Zane Winslade being joined by Jack Martin and the experienced John Brookes.

Cinderford v Chinnor - 5th February 2005

Last week  2^nd place Clifton provided the opposition, this week Chinnor travel to the SW Div 1 league leaders Cinderford.

There will be no opportunity for Chinnor to give the Forest of Dean outfit the 24 point start they gave to Clifton and still hope to be in the final count down against a team that will field all their overseas stars and who have lost only one game in this campaign.

Injuries and unavailability means the Kingsey Road coaching staff have to select an extended squad knowing that a 3^rd successive defeat will see them back in the relegation dog fight.

The Bristolians lie in 2^nd place, five points and three places ahead of Chinnor.

Penryn v Chinnor. 22nd January 2005

Chinnor, 5^th in the table face the longest journey of their SW 1 programme with a trip to Cornwall to take on 9^th place Penryn.
For the 3^rd successive week, after wins against Cheltenham and Witney the squad remains in tact which means a league debut for 17 year old Pangbourne student Morgan Thompson.
“We played both our scrum halves in the cup game against Witney and they performed well but given the style of rugby the Cornishmen will play, Morgan will give us a different option. The forwards must give us the platform to allow our backs the freedom to run.”

Oxon County Cup - Witney vs. Chinnor Sunday 16th January 

The County Cup provides Chinnor with the opportunity to display yet another product from their Youth Development programme. The club gives a first team debut to 17 year old scrum half Morgan Thompson. Morgan, currently at Pangbourne School joins a squad buoyant from their excellent win over promotion chasing Cheltenham last week and who now find themselves fourth in South West Division One.

“There will be no complacency from us whatsoever”, says coach John Brodley. “We  have total respect for the Witney club and have not forgotten the 9 all draw we shared three years ago and our cup final defeat last season still hurts. We are looking forward to a tough encounter and a lot will depend on the conditions. It would be nice though, given the recent rain and storms if the local Fire Brigade could change their habit of doing their hose drills at the ground just prior to these cup ties” said the coach with a wry smile.

Chinnor get their New Year programme under way with an attractive fixture at home against promotion hopefuls Cheltenham.

“The break  has done us good” says Director of Rugby Lyn Evans “our squad is fit and looking forward to mounting a push into the promotion places although Cheltenham will be looking to do the same. They are in 4^th place - only one place and two points above us and like all Gloucester sides will provide us with a tough battle up front.”

It will be the final game  for scrum half  Leon Jacobs before returning home to South Africa. “We wish him well but he could make it a very special occasion if he could score his first try for the club” jokes Evans.

Team News.  ……Gloucester Old Boys v Chinnor. 18/12/04.  Kick Off 1430.

Still smarting after defeat last week against Maidenhead which deprived them of a play off place, Chinnor start the first of their reverse SW One league fixtures away at Gloucester Old Boys.

The phrase “constant under achievers” is beginning to wear a little thin at Kingsey Road so where better to make a re-start than in the heart of a rugby hot bed.

In a league of 12, the Old Boys are currently  in 9^th  place on 8 pts having only won four of their 11 games.

Chinnor are 3 places higher with 5 wins; 5 losses and a draw in their 11 points.

Head coach John Brodley - “To say I was disappointed after last weeks performance would be an understatement. We can’t afford another performance like that especially not at Gloucester. We expect a typical Gloucester battle up front but will look to our backs to provide the width and pace to create us space and scoring opportunities. Opportunities that must be converted into scores”.

Chinnor bid farewell to a Kiwi and welcome a Springbok.

Sam Mc Ivor returns to New Zealand on Saturday with the best wishes of the club as he pursues his law studies.

His place in the backs is taken by South African under 21 winger Eric BROWN and he makes his debut at Kingsey Road this week end in the SW Div 1 game against Maidenhead.

“We wish Sam well and extend the warmest of welcomes to Eric “ says coach John Brodley.  “ he will come into a side that has made excellent progress over the past four weeks especially as we have moved towards contention for a play-off place. The next three games are vital in proving our resolve in cementing that position.”

Brown and Richard Grimsdell are the only two changes in the squad that beat Keynsham last week.

Team News. Keynsham v Chinnor. 4/12/04.  Kick Off 1430.

Chinnor travel to Bristol to take on Keynsham knowing a win is a must to keep out of the SW Division 1 relegation zone.

Chinnor are in 7^th place with 9 points. Keynsham prop up the table without any points having lost all nine of their games.

Coach John Brodley travels with a word of warning to his full strength squad :- “they may have had a disastrous start but they have always proved the most difficult of opponents. Their links to the Bristol and Bath clubs means their fortunes could change dramatically & quickly with the inclusion of new players. It is crucial that we secure a win and let any thoughts of points differentials  look after themselves. It will be total folly to underestimate them.”

For the second successive week, Chinnor take on opposition from Gloucestershire – the Old Boys visiting Kingsey Road.

Last weeks draw away against high flying Cheltenham was considered by all concerned  to be “a win that got away”.

With players returning from injury and sickness, Coach John Brodley keeps the same team as last week but is able to adjust his replacements. Brad Grobler, Jo Winpenny pack down in the front row with their skipper Simon Matthews. Andy Milburn comes into the back row with Jack Martin joining Chad Ward and Bob Harris on the bench.

The SW Div One table sees Chinnor one place & one point ahead of the Old Boys; both with similar playing records of played 8, won 3. The difference being GOB losing 5; Chinnor losing four with one draw.

No prizes for guessing the pressure the Chinnor pack can expect from their opponents.

Good performances in the club match last week means promotion to the Ist XV for three players as the club travels to Cheltenham in SW. Division 1 -

Winger  Richard Grimsdell for whom it will also be a league debut, and forwards Brad Grobler & and a most welcome return for Mike Cook.

Injuries rule out Chad Ward and John Dollery.

It will be a tough fixture as Cheltenham are currently 3rd in the league on 10 points having played 6; won 5; lost one.

Chinnor find themselves at the wrong end of the table in 8th place on 6 points with 3 wins and 4 defeats.

Without any league or cup  action this week end, Chinnor have arranged an attractive club fixture at  Kingsey Road against Old Albanians from London Division One.

“Of our next seven games, six are important league games which will test the clubs playing resources to the full ” says coach John Brodley. “This game will allow us to examine and ask questions of some of our fringe and squad players to ensure that they can meet the demands expected of them.”
