The David Charles Oxfordshire Cup Final
Sunday April 21st at Iffley Road, Oxford
Chinnor 1st XV 17 vs. Banbury 1st XV 13
For the 4th time in 5 years, Chinnor RFC 1st XV faced Banbury
1st's in the final of the David Charles Oxfordshire Cup at Iffley Road. Previous
encounters showed Banbury with 2 victories (13-0 in 1998, 20-19 in 2000) to Chinnor's sole victory in 1999 8 pts to 5.
But in 2002, Chinnor rose to the challenge with their
dominance in the pack and defence to win through 17 pts to 13 despite having
only 14 fit men for the last 10 minutes of the game. An early injury to Arnoldus
De Toit Serdyn resulted in a weakened lineout which was made even worse when
James Borgnis left the field with a dislocated elbow.
Add to this injuries to James Davies and earlier substitutions
of Bob Harris and Paul Kelly and the team had to cling on till the end for this
tremendous victory.
